How FLYR evaluates and recommends restrictions

The theory behind the inventory optimization engine

Written by Laya Janssens

FLYR Hospitality Optimize doesn't restrict inventory one date at a time. Every recommendation comes from a single evaluation that weighs every plausible open/close configuration across your booking horizon and selects the one with the highest expected revenue. Here's how that works.

  1. Where it starts: demand versus capacity

For each day, Optimize compares your granular forecasted demand — at the inventory type and rate plan level — against your remaining capacity. This determines whether a restriction is needed at all before anything else happens.

  2. What gets restricted first

When a restriction is needed, Optimize restricts your lowest-value business first, moving to higher-value business only if demand calls for it. This applies to your parity and yieldable rate plans.

  3. Net value, not the headline rate

Before deciding what to restrict, Optimize factors in any channel costs you've configured in data enrichment. That means an OTA reservation and a direct, BAR-level reservation are compared on what they're actually worth to your property, not on the headline rate.

  4. Cap length of stay

Optimize evaluates the reservation across length of stay and settles on the length that makes commercial sense for that rate plan and date. If a restriction reaches a high length of stay that doesn't make sense, it will cap it and translate this to a closure.

  5. Precision at the rate plan level

Because restrictions are generated at the rate plan level, you'll often see different length-of-stay restrictions on the same day across different rate plans. Optimize identifies exactly which business doesn't make sense for a given day and recommends the right length of stay for that specific rate plan, rather than one blanket rule for your whole property.

Restricting one date changes the forecast for the days around it, because the business you accept or decline on one day affects demand on the days around it. Optimize considers every date and every rate plan simultaneously and re-optimizes every hour — solving for revenue across the whole picture, not one day or one rate plan in isolation.
