The Primary PMS Segment is an informational column on the Rate Plans screen that displays the PMS segment most commonly associated with each rate plan based on actual reservation data. It provides a baseline when mapping rate plans to your FLYR segments.
What is Primary PMS Segment?
The Primary PMS Segment shows which PMS segment appears most frequently on reservations for a specific rate plan.
How It Works
When your PMS sends reservations to FLYR, we receive both the rate plan and the segment attached to each booking. The system analyzes all reservations for each rate plan and identifies which PMS segment appears most often. This most common segment is displayed as the Primary PMS Segment.
Key Features:
Based on actual data - derived from real reservation patterns, not PMS configuration
Automatically updated - the Primary PMS Segment is re-evaluated every time new reservations are received from your PMS
Prioritizes recent bookings - newer reservations have more weight to reflect current practices
Adapts to changes - gradually updates if your PMS segment assignments change
Filters outliers - occasional manual overrides won't significantly affect the result
When Primary PMS Segment is Empty
Rate plans will not show a Primary PMS Segment when the rate plan hasn't received any reservations yet. Once reservations are received, the Primary PMS Segment will automatically populate.
When the Column is Not Displayed
The Primary PMS Segment column will not appear at all if no PMS segment data is available for any rate plans across all properties in your current selection. If you don't see the column, it means none of the rate plans in your selected properties have received reservations with PMS segment information.
How to Use Primary PMS Segment
The Primary PMS Segment provides a baseline for understanding your existing PMS segmentation and helps you create your FLYR segment structure.
Creating Your FLYR Segmentation
The primary use case for the Primary PMS Segment is to serve as a baseline when setting up your FLYR segmentation:
Review the Primary PMS Segment data to understand your current PMS segment structure
Identify patterns and groupings across your rate plans
Design your FLYR segment hierarchy based on your business needs
Use the Primary PMS Segment as mapping criteria when assigning rate plans to FLYR segments

With the Mapping Assistant
The Primary PMS Segment can be used as criteria in the Rate Plan Mapping Assistant to automatically map rate plans to your FLYR segments. For example, you can create criteria like "map all rate plans with PMS segment Corporate LRA, Local Corporate and Corporate NLRA to Corporate segment" and the assistant will use the Primary PMS Segment data to apply these mappings. Copying PMS Segment to FLYR Segment
If you want to use the exact same segments in FLYR as your Primary PMS Segment, you have two options:
Using the Mapping Assistant - prompt the assistant to directly use the Primary PMS Segments or leverage the starter prompt
Use Primary PMS SegmentsUsing Bulk Actions - Select the rate plans you want to update, click Actions β Copy PMS Segment Configuration to apply the Primary PMS Segment as the FLYR segment
Note: This is a one-time action. If the Primary PMS Segment changes later based on new bookings received, you'll need to review the affected rate plans and manually decide whether to update the FLYR segmentation to match.
β οΈ Important Considerations
Informational only - The Primary PMS Segment does not control how reservations are processed, affect revenue reporting, or determine FLYR segment assignments. It's purely a reference point and serves as a baseline for your FLYR segmentation.
Based on actual usage, not configuration - The Primary PMS Segment reflects which segment appears most frequently on actual reservations.
Multiple segments may exist - When reviewing reservation data for a rate plan, you might observe multiple different PMS segments due to manual overrides at the reservation level. The Primary PMS Segment shows only the most common one, not all variants that might appear.
Updates gradually after PMS changes - If you change a rate plan's PMS segment assignment, the Primary PMS Segment will update as new reservations come in with the new segment code, this is evaluated frequently as new bookings are received. At any point, you can manually override the FLYR segment mapping immediately.
Requires reservations - Rate plans without booking history won't display a Primary PMS Segment until reservations are received.
Column visibility - If you don't see the Primary PMS Segment column at all, it means no rate plans in your current property selection have PMS segment data available. This typically occurs when properties are newly onboarded or have no reservation history.
