You may remember this step from the initial set up of FLYR Hospitality, or perhaps you have added new Rate Plans recently. This process, which previously required manual confirmation of the plan's exact nature, is now automated.
As FLYR's automatic pricing algorithms are focussed on delivering up-to-date prices for your dynamically priced rate plans, we need to ensure that we classify the algorithm's inputs (i.e. your reservations and rates) to the level of detail the system can interpret.
We automate this process by leveraging data from your PMS to classify your business into four main categories. This significantly reduces manual effort while ensuring accuracy. You still have the ability to review and adjust these classifications as needed.
These are the primary classifications available:
Dynamic
Fixed
Group Dynamic
Group Fixed
Available Classifications
Dynamic
Rate plans that adjust pricing dynamically based on market conditions and demand, considered as a primary demand signal for FLYR's pricing engine. These are typically publicly available or flexible rate plans distributed via your website, CRS, or OTAs, where price changes reflect real-time updates from FLYR, either directly priced via FLYR or derived from these rates.
π‘ Example - BAR (direct and OTA), non-refundable, dynamic promotions, dynamic corporate rates (e.g. 10% off BAR)
Fixed
Rate plans with static pricing that do not fluctuate dynamically. These are often pre-negotiated or restricted offers where rates remain constant for a period of time and therefore do not act as demand indicators for pricing optimization.
π‘ Example - fixed corporate rates, static packages, complimentary, staff or friends and family rates (even if derived from BAR when the discount is significant)
Group
Any rate plan which is used for group business (either to track groups in the PMS or to price groups) falls into this classification. This is important for us to know as group rates are typically negotiated as well as for example, carrying the possibility of slightly higher cancellation potential and traditionally being booked further in advance.
Group Dynamic - used for group business where the price is derived from a dynamic rate e.g., 15% off BAR.
Group Fixed - used for group business where the price is static or pre-negotiated and does not adjust dynamically.
π‘ Examples - group rates for weddings, conferences, airline crews, or tour allocations.
Note - The distinction between Group Dynamic and Group Fixed is primarily provided in the Quick View (Price Evolution tab) for enhanced contextualization. However, for optimization, the FLYR does not differentiate between the two types of Group business.
How Automatic Pricing Classification Works
The classification process is fully automated for Optimize Enabled properties that are actively receiving bookings and have the necessary base rate plan (also referred to as the parent rate) attached as defined in your Rate Types configuration.
FLYR automatically classifies rate plans based on the data received from your PMS, ensuring your pricing setup reflects how rates are actually structured and used in your system. This process removes the need for manual setup while keeping classifications aligned with your real business logic.
Dynamic vs. Fixed - determined by the rate plan derived relationship to your dynamic pricing strategy.
Dynamic - classified if the rate plan is directly priced via FLYR or if the PMS indicates it is derived from a FLYR-priced rate.
Fixed - classified if the rate plan has a static price and is not derived from a FLYR-priced rate.
Group - identified using group information received at reservation level. If a rate plan is predominantly used for group bookings, it will be classified as Group (Dynamic or Fixed based on its pricing structure).
π Rate plans are automatically classified within 24 hours of being received in FLYR.
βΉοΈ Itβs important that rate plan data is accurately managed in your PMS, particularly derived rate relationships and group usage to ensure correct classification and minimize the need for manual overrides.
Staying in Control: Manual Overrides
While automation handles the initial classification, you remain in full control. We recommend reviewing the automated classifications and adjusting as necessary to align with your strategy.
Managing Manual Overrides
You can manually override the automated classification for any rate plan. On the Rate Plan Configuration screen:
User Override Indicator - a user icon (π€) is displayed next to any rate plan whose classification has been manually overridden by a user.
FLYR Recommendation - when opening the classification selector, a sparkle icon (β¨) icon highlights the classification currently recommended by the FLYR based on your PMS data.
Disabling Automation (Opt-Out)
You have the option to deactivate the automated classification and fully manage this process manually.
Review Status - the classification status (Automated or Manual) for a property is visible in the Optimization Settings, under the Property tab in the Rate Classification column.
Manual Management Indicators - properties manually managing their classifications are also highlighted on the Rate Plans screen to easily distinguish these; no FLYR recommendation will be available.
To Opt-Out - please contact our Advisory team to request that the automated classification be disabled for your property.
Addressing Classification Nuances
We recommend reviewing and adjusting classifications in these known scenarios where PMS data may lead to unexpected results:
Scenario | Details | Recommendation Action |
Group blocks not used in the PMS | Group-related rates will not classified as Group when reservations in the PMS do not have formal group blocks | Manually classify any dedicated group rate plans as Group Dynamic or Group Fixed. |
Derived non-public rates (e.g. Staff or Friends & Family) | Rates derived from a dynamic base rate (like employee rates) may be classified as Dynamic business when these are received as derived from dynamic rates. | If these rates are not public or have significant discounts, manually classify as Fixed so its bookings are not considered demand signals. |
Rate Deviations not managed in the PMS | Rate derivation relationships managed outside of the PMS (e.g. in the CRS) may not be available to FLYR, leading to a Fixed classification. | Manually classify these derived rates as Dynamic if they follow your primary dynamic pricing strategy. |
Historical base rate changes | If you changed your base rate structure prior to connecting to FLYR, the historical data for the previous base rate and its derivations will be classified as Fixed. | Manually classify the old base rate(s) and its derived rates as Dynamic if they followed your primary dynamic pricing strategy. |
Although FLYR classifies rate plans automatically within 24 hours, reviewing your classifications after onboarding or major PMS changes helps maintain accuracy and ensures your pricing engine has the most reliable inputs.
