The Insights' workbook is designed to help you ask any question of your data. Each workbook contains one or more tabs (queries), where data can be explored using data from any of the predefinedTopics.

For more information on Topics, please refer to our Understanding Topics in Insights.

Note: tabs can be renamed and rearranged for better organization.

πŸ’Ύ Saving a Workbook

Workbooks can optionally be named and saved. When a workbook is saved, it appears alongside other dashboards and workbooks in the content system.

If a workbook is not saved, you can still return to that analysis by searching for it on the Activity page. The Activity page logs all of your activity, whether on saved or unsaved workbooks.

πŸ”„ Workbook Modes (Viewing vs. Editing)

A workbook can be in either View or Edit mode.

  • View Mode: You are looking at the latest saved version of the workbook.

  • Edit Mode: You are changing the workbook, and changes will auto-save as you go. Changes made in edit mode will also impact the dashboard that is attached to the workbook.

You can see a history of all changes made by you or others by opening up the Version History panel and optionally restore a previous version. Note that only changes to the workbook are currently shown.

πŸ” Exploring a Workbook

Sometimes you may want to explore or iterate on an analysis without impacting the saved version. From View Mode, you can start interacting with the workbook to jump into an exploration.

While exploring, changes are not saved, and you can exit the exploration to return to the latest version of the workbook.

  • To save your exploration, select Save from the file menu. This will add all current changes into the saved workbook.

  • To save changes to a new workbook, select Save As….

Note: When you make any changes to the workbook, the changes will also be reflected on the dashboard associated with the workbook.

🧩 Duplicating Workbook Tabs / Dashboard Tiles

Workbook tabs (queries) can be duplicated inside workbooks or moved to new or existing workbooks.

Copy Tab to New Workbook

Right-click on the tab and select Copy to new workbook. This will create a new workbook and import the tab. If the tab is connected with another tab (for instance, uses a lookup function), both tabs will be copied.

Copy Tab to Existing Workbook

  1. Right-click on the tab and select Copy to existing workbook....

  2. Copy the tab ID.

  3. In the workbook you want to copy into (must be in the workbook view, not dashboard), select Import from the file menu and paste in the tab ID.

πŸ€– AI Query & Formula Helper

The AI Query Helper enables you to ask questions about their data using natural language. For example, you might ask it, "How much revenue do I have on the books for this month?" The AI Query Helper then attempts to answer this question by generating a query and running it within the workbook.

Using the AI Query Helper

There are two ways to leverage this feature:

  1. From the Results Tab: In the workbook, the AI Formula Helper will help you write a formula and add the results to the table.

    • You can interact with the formula generated just like any other formula (e.g., edit, rename).

  2. Insights AI Query Helper:

    • Access the query helper by selecting the three stars on the left navigation bar.

    • A panel will open next to the field picker with tips on how to use the feature and a text box to ask your first question.

    • Note: the query can only be based on fields within the Topic you have selected

Note: You can ask any question about the data; Insights AI will not respond with a text answer but will generate a query that appears on the right-hand side (selected fields, filters, and results). All answers are routed through Topics and will generate a query based on these predefined structures.

For more information on Topics, please refer to our Understanding Topics in Insights.

Iterative Chat Interface

The chat interface is iterative, allowing you to refine your queries:

Example:

  • You: "How much revenue do I have on the books for this month?"

  • Insights AI's Answer: [Displays query and results]

  • You: "Break this down by department."

  • Insights AI's Next Answer: [Updates query and results]

Help us improve the experience by rating the results. πŸ‘

Note: If you close the Insights AI Query Helper, the text history is deleted.

By utilizing Insights' robust features, you can seamlessly analyze and share data, leveraging both manual queries built with Topics and AI-assisted insights to drive informed decision-making.
