How to Create Calendar Events for Insights-Only Properties

How Insights-only customers can create calendar events to flag abnormal demand dates and benchmark their performance in Insights.

Written by Maria Garbea

FLYR lets Insights-only properties - properties that use FLYR Insights but not FLYR Optimize - mark calendar Events directly from the Calendar: holidays, festivals, closures, or any date with unusual demand. This gives FLYR's forecast better context and makes the event show up as performance context in your Insights dashboards.

Why create Events

Creating an Event on the Calendar serves two purposes:

  • FLYR's forecast learns from your property's history, but not every date behaves like an ordinary day. Marking a date as an Event tells the forecast that demand for that period is abnormal, either higher or lower than usual, whether that is a holiday, a conference, a local event, or any other date you know will not follow the typical pattern. The forecast then groups it with similar past events rather than treating it like a regular day, which improves accuracy for that period. For more on how FLYR builds and applies your demand forecast, see AI Forecasting In Depth.

  • Events also enable you benchmark performance within Insights, comparing this year's event against previous occurrences. For more details see Using Calendar Events for Comparative Analysis in Insights.

Creating an Event for a Insights-only property

  1. Navigate to the Calendar 🗓 screen on the left-hand side control panel.

  2. Select the property you want to add an event to.

  3. Click Create New.

  4. On a Insights-only property, you will see three options: Event, Note, and Property Closure. Select Event.

  5. Fill in the event Details: title, date range, and category. Choose the category that best matches the event - this helps FLYR's forecast group it with similar past events.

  6. Click Save.

Creating Events across multiple properties

If you manage a property group with several properties, you can create an Event across more than one property at once, using the same Multi-Property option available for Price Settings.

Note: Multi-property Event creation only works within a single property type. Select either all Insights-only properties or all properties using FLYR Optimization in one action - you cannot mix the two. If your group has both, create the Event separately for each group of properties.
