Dashboards

How to create, edit, and configure dashboards in Insights.

Written by Ashley Dehertogh

Create a Dashboard

Workbooks can be presented as dashboards, displaying many analyses at once with interactive filters. To build a dashboard, select the + Dashboard button in the upper right corner of the workbook page. Each workbook analysis will be tiled onto a unified piece of content.

Edit a Dashboard

  1. Toggle view mode to edit mode in the top right corner of the dashboard, or go to the Edit menu tab and choose Edit Dashboard. Changes are saved automatically while in edit mode.

  2. Tiles can be rearranged by dragging them into the desired placement.

  3. Rename a dashboard from the Edit menu by selecting Rename.

Edit a dashboard tile

Select a tile to open its properties in the panel on the right. From there you can edit the title, subtitle, description, visualisation type, and display options directly, changes save automatically. For advanced configuration, such as changing the underlying analysis or field setup, use the Edit in workbook button to open the source analysis.

Tile naming and description best practices:

  • Title — short and descriptive, naming what the chart shows: "Accommodation Revenue by Stay Period." Use consistent labels: "Stay Period" rather than "Stay Date," "Dimension" rather than "Macro Segment."

  • Subtitle — use for scope clarification only: what is included or excluded from the calculation. Example: RevPAR (incl. out-of-order rooms). Keep it brief.

  • Description (tooltip icon) — use for metric definitions for metrics that are correctly named but non-obvious to your audience, such as TrevPAR or AI Forecast Accuracy. Do not repeat the title or subtitle, say something the viewer could not work out from the chart itself.

Edit tile appearance

  • Hide Chart — hides the tile from the dashboard. The tile's underlying data is still used by other tiles on the dashboard, so hiding it does not break anything that depends on it. To apply a filter to a hidden tile, un-hide it first, add the filter, then hide it again.

  • Remove Background — makes the tile background transparent.

AI-generated tile descriptions

Tiles support AI-generated subtitles and descriptions that update automatically as the underlying data changes. To enable: select a tile, click the star icon in the properties panel, and toggle Let AI write the subtitle or Let AI write the description on.

Use the Additional context field to guide what the AI focuses on, for example, "this chart shows pick-up pace versus the same period last year; flag when current pace is running significantly below."

Query text items

You can insert a tile that shows live-linked metadata from another tile on the dashboard, its title, subtitle, description, or AI summary, and that automatically updates when the source tile changes. Right-click any chart tile to access the insert options.

This is useful when a tile's AI summary should appear in a prominent text area at the top of a section while the chart itself sits further down.

Markdown (Text) Tiles

To add text to the dashboard, go into edit mode and select Add Text. Text tiles support markdown, styling, images, links, and more. See a markdown syntax reference here.

Spacers and Dividers

To add visual breathing room or a separator line between sections, go into edit mode and select Add > Layout, then choose Spacer (empty space) or Divider (a visible separator line).

Excluding Tiles (Workbook Tabs)

You may have analyses in the workbook that are not intended for the dashboard, intermediate steps or reference data used by other tiles. To exclude them, uncheck the corresponding workbook tab from edit mode on the dashboard.

Undo and Redo

Layout changes, adding, moving, or resizing tiles and containers, can be undone via the Edit menu, the toolbar buttons, or Cmd+Z / Ctrl+Z. Non-layout changes such as renaming, filter configuration, and analysis updates clear the undo history.

Controls

Controls let viewers change what a chart shows without editing the dashboard. They sit alongside filters in the dashboard header or inline with a section.

To add a control, go into edit mode and select Add > Control. Select the underlying field, then toggle tile icons to connect the control to the tiles it should affect. Set a default value and optionally hide the control from viewers.

Type

What it does

Field Switcher

Swaps one field for another, change a metric, dimension, or breakdown. Example: toggle a segments chart between Market Segment and Booking Channel without building two separate charts.

Multi-Field Picker

Lets viewers select zero or more fields to display in a tile. Most useful for table analyses.

Time Frame Switcher

Changes the time granularity of date groupings. Example: switch the stay period axis between daily, weekly, and monthly to zoom in or out on pace trends.

Period Over Period

Compares metrics across time periods. Note: use the Comparison Period filter instead, the built-in "Previous" and "STLP" measures will not work correctly with this control type.

Parent Controls

Coordinates multiple controls at once from a single selector. Useful when the same date field appears across many tiles and you want one timeframe switcher to update all of them simultaneously. Child controls can be hidden to keep the header clean.

Filters

For full documentation on adding filters, configuring filter display types, and working with global and section-scoped filters, see Dashboard Filters.

Containers and Pages

Dashboards use containers to group related tiles into named sections, and pages to organise distinct topics into tab navigation. For full documentation, see Containers and Dashboard Pages.

Dashboard Settings

Access dashboard settings via Edit > Dashboard Settings.

Setting

What it does

Fixed Control Bar

Pins the filter and control bar to the top of the viewport as viewers scroll. Turn this on for any dashboard where viewers change stay date, property, or comparison period while reviewing content mid-page. Off by default.

On Load, Run Queries For

Current page only (default, faster initial load) or All pages (loads everything on open).

Collapsible Filters

Hides filters that overflow a single row behind a "show more" toggle.

Auto-refresh

Reloads analyses at a set interval. Useful for dashboards reviewed live in a briefing or revenue meeting. Auto-refreshed analyses bypass cache, leave off for regular daily or weekly review use.

Faceted Filters

Links filters so one selection narrows options in another. For example, selecting a region would reduce the property list to only properties in that region. Off by default.

Cross-filtering

Lets viewers click a chart element to filter all compatible tiles. Off by default. See Cross-Filtering in Insights.

Timezone Override

Adds a timezone picker to the dashboard header so viewers can adjust query timezone without changing their profile settings.

Preview Mode

Preview mode shows exactly how the dashboard will appear to viewers without publishing changes.

To enter preview mode:

  1. Enter edit mode via the Edit button.

  2. Select the preview icon in the toolbar.

  3. Choose Desktop or Mobile to see how the dashboard renders on different screen sizes.

All editing controls are hidden and viewer interactions are fully enabled, including filters, controls, and page navigation. Click Exit preview to return to editing. All changes are preserved when you exit.
